WHAT IS IT?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is an innovative clinical treatment for victims of trauma. Since its introduction in 1989, the approach has been taught to over 17,000 clinicians worldwide. With very positive results emanating from recent studies, EMDR is now the most extensively researched treatment for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and many other applications are also being explored.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
EMDR is a time efficient, comprehensive methodology for the treatment of the disturbing experiences that underlie many pathologies. Drawing on behavioral, cognitive, psychodynamic, body-based and systems therapies, it provides profound and stable treatment benefits in a short period of time. Through eye movements, EMDR helps victims of trauma reprocess disturbing thoughts and memories. Current research suggests that the eye movements link its affects to REM sleep, dual attention and drawing on both sides of the brain to let go of the painful feelings and physical symptoms associated with the traumatic event.

WHO BENEFITS FROM THIS TREATMENT TOOL?
Controlled studies of Vietnam veterans, Oklahoma bomb survivors, other crimes, rape, abuse, phobias, accident, illness, catastrophic loss and natural disaster indicate that the method is capable of rapid change and a significant reductin of symptoms such as emotinal distress, intrusive thoughts, flashbacks and nightmares.
